Subject: Overhaul with Temp-A-Start
I think we experienced something that you should know about... We bought a bunch of Freightliners. Three of those were outfitted with Temp-A-Start idle systems. I was just lloking at the records and noticed that all of them except the Temp-A-Start ones have had valve jobs. These have been necessary between 535,000 and 660,000 miles. The Temp-A-Start ones are still going.
I think Temp-A-Start might be the secret to 750,000 mile engines. Remember that we never have a cold start in the winter and we never idle at base idle. Those two items cause more "fast wear" than anything else on engines.
I am proposing we buy Temp-A-Start on the upcoming order for Freightliners. We should also not overhaul the three we have with Temp-A-Start so we can see how long they will run. By the way, the Freightliner Dealer can't believe it either!
Thanks,
Steve
