What Is Temp-A-Start?

Temp-A-Start is an automatic monitoring system for diesel engines that eliminates unnecessary engine idling, saves fuel, increases oil change intervals, saves on maintenance costs, and increases your over-all M.P.G. The latest in Start/Stop technology, Temp-A-Start is the definitive way to assure driver comfort while controlling diesel engine idle costs. Temp-A-Start has been active in the marketplace for over 20 years. It is one of the oldest companies devoted to working with the trucking industry to reduce engine wear and fuel costs. The Start/Stop systems on the marketplace today were born from Temp-A-Start technology. Among them are Detroit Diesel’s “OP IDLE” and Cummins Engine “ICON”. Temp-A-Start technology continues to set the bar for Start/Stop systems with improvements each new model year.

How Does It Work?

Temp-A-Start is triggered by oil temperature and battery condition. When the oil temperature drops to a pre-set point, the engine automatically starts. When the oil temperature rises to a per-set point, Temp-A-Start automatically shuts the engine down. When equipped with the optional the Driver Comfort Control Center, Temp-A-Start automatically starts and stops the engine based on the temperature in the sleeper bunk. Temp-A-Start even monitors the battery condition so a start can be initiated if a battery is going bad. Drivers can confidently leave their trucks knowing that Temp-A-Start is in charge! Temp-A-Start is programmed to go through the proper sequence when initiating a start or stop cycle.

How Will Temp-A-Start Increase My Bottom Line?

Temp-A-Start is an engine control system that can pay for itself in as little as one year! Depending on ambient temperature, a Temp-A-Start controlled truck will idle up to 80% less than a truck without an idle reduction system, producing a similar reduction in fuel costs. An engine at normal base idle in the low heat range (600 - 700 RPM) is creating anywhere from 45 - 70% of the engine’s total wear. In a study by Argonne Laboratory for the D.O.E., an engine idling at 1, 500 hours per year would require an overhaul two (2) years sooner than if idling time had been reduced. Temp-A-Start maintains the Manufacturer’s fast idle RPM automatically. This reduces engine wear levels, and increases the oil change intervals. There will be no more excessive build up of sludge, carbon deposits, or other engine eating contaminates. Temp-A-Start’s proven Start/Stop technology automatically controls your engine, keeping it within the most favorable range for minimum engine wear and maximum capacity, regardless of the ambient outside temperature.
