Temp-A-Start Audio Companion Program Transcription

(musical intro)
Temp-A-Start, the leader in automatic start/stop technology, brings you the newest addition to the Temp-A-Start idle reduction family. Temp-A-Start can start and stop your tractor engine when unattended and maintain comfortable sleeping temperatures while you are in the bunk. It can save fuel, increase engine life, and reduce your maintenance costs and down time. This recording has been developed to assist you with the operation of your Temp-A-Start system.

(musical break)

First - we will review the Temp-A-Start modes of operation. We’ll discuss the safety conditions that must be met before Temp-A-Start can be turned on. We’ll turn the system on and explain how it operates. And we’ll discuss the automatic shut down feature.

(musical breaK)

There are 2 modes of operation. An ENGINE MODE, and an optional HEATING/AIR CONDITIONING MODE. In the ENGINE MODE, the engine will start and stop as required to keep the engine warm and the tractor batteries charged. If your Temp-A-Start system includes the HEATING or AIR CONDITIONING option, when activated, the engine will also start and stop as required to maintain a comfortable temperature in the sleeper bunk.

(musical break)

Now let’s operate the system:
Before turning Temp-A-Start on you must perform the following safety checks:
The hood or cab must be in the down and latched position.
The transmission must be in neutral.
The tractor parking brakes must be engaged.
And the engine must be running.

(musical break)

To operate Temp-A-Start in the ENGINE MODE:
First, locate the Temp-A-Start Driver Display panel. Then with the engine running, position the ON/OFF switch in the ON position. The Auto Start Indicator LED will change from RED to GREEN, indicating the system is activated. The engine speed will increase to a high idle and run at that speed for at least 4 ½ minutes. When the engine is warmed up, and the battery fully charged, it will return to normal idle for approximately 8 seconds and then shut down. Temp-A-Start is now in the ENGINE MODE of operation. The engine will continue to start and stop as necessary to keep it warm and to keep the engine in a ready to go state. An ENGINE COMPARTMENT SAFETY ALARM will sound for 15 seconds before each engine re-start. For your convenience, you can turn the key off and remove it. The system will continue to operate in the ENGINE MODE.

(musical break)

To operate in the optional HEATING or AIR CONDITIONING MODE:
First, make sure your Temp-A-Start system is already in the ENGINE MODE. You do NOT turn your ignition key OFF or remove it for the HEATING/AIR CONDITIONING MODE. Temp-A-Start will control your ignition switch electronically.
(musical break)

Set the tractor controls to either HEATING or AIR CONDITIONING, and fans should be set to their MAXIMUM positions. Locate the BUNK THERMOSTAT DISPLAY PANEL in the bunk area of your tractor. To activate, push the ON/MODE button ONCE. The thermostat will come on, displaying the software version and the inside temperature reading. The thermostat will automatically go to your last saved settings. To change from HEAT to COOL or COOL to HEAT, push the HEAT or COOL button ONCE. Please note, your thermostat recognizes the current outside ambient temperature. If the temperature is below 55 degrees Fahrenheit, the thermostat will automatically go to the HEAT mode. If the temperature is above 75 degrees Fahrenheit, the thermostat will automatically go to the COOL mode.

(musical break)

Your thermostat display has LEDs that light when the thermostat ON/MODE button is pushed. To make additional changes, push the ON/MODE button until the LED for the function you wish to read or change lights. To change an item, the LED for that item must be lit. Then, using the UP/DOWN buttons, you can make your changes. Pushing the ON/MODE button after the change will store the new setting. Also, note that there is a SIGNAL/OUT LED, when this LED is lit, the thermostat is calling for additional heating or cooling. You may repeat this process to change any item on the thermostat screen.

(musical break)

HEATING or AIR CONDITIONING MODE (H/A MODE for short) will automatically be cancelled when the tractor is placed in gear or the parking brake is released. The next time you want H/A MODE to be active, put the system in the ENGINE MODE and simply press the ON/MODE button on the BUNK THERMOSTAT DISPLAY PANEL. The thermostat will then activate, going to your last saved settings. This means, for your convenience Temp-A-Start remembers your favorite settings between use! So far we’ve been running the unit with the truck parked, in neutral, with the brake on. Now let’s get it on the road!

(musical break)

Leave the Temp-A-Start ON/OFF switch on the DRIVER DISPLAY PANEL in the ON position. If the engine is running, the ANTI-THEFT feature is activated. Releasing the parking brake and driving away at this time will result in an engine shut down, and all accessories will be turned off. If the engine is running, to DE-ACTIVATE the ANTI-THEFT feature, turn the ignition key OFF for 5 seconds, then back ON, release the parking brake, and you’re now ready to go. If the engine is NOT running, turn the ignition key OFF for 5 seconds and then back ON, manually start the engine, release the brake, and you’re on your way!

(musical break)

The Auto Start LED will turn from GREEN to RED when you release the brake or put the tractor in gear. The next time you stop, place the transmission in neutral, and set the parking brake. The Auto Start LED will turn from RED to GREEN and Temp-A-Start will again take over. Keeping your tractor engine warm and the batteries charged.

(musical break)

To turn the system OFF, simply switch the ON/OFF switch on the Temp-A-Start Driver Display Panel to the OFF position. The Auto Start Indicator LED will turn RED. For safety, always turn the system off before performing any engine maintenance. For normal operation, the Temp-A-Start ON/OFF switch may be left in the ON position for maximum benefits.

(musical break)

Temp-A-Start also contains an automatic engine shut down feature, which works with the ECM shut down feature When Temp-A-Start is off, the engine may be left idling as normal, with the ignition key ON. After a custom set time determined by the customer, of 5 to 15 minutes of normal idling, the engine will automatically shut down. To re-start the engine, turn the ignition key to OFF for 5 seconds, then switch it back ON. You can now re-start the engine normally. If left idling, it will again shut itself off after the set number of minutes of normal idle. Remember, turning off Temp-A-Start does NOT cancel the automatic engine shut down. It only cancels the AUTOMATIC START.

(musical break)

Temp-A-Start has included a safety feature on your Driver Display Panel. The NEUTRAL INDICATOR LED. This LED will glow RED when the transmission is in neutral, and go out if the transmission is in any gear including reverse. The NEUTRAL INDICATOR LED remains active at all times. Even with Temp-A-Start turned off and the ignition key removed. The light uses very little current and will not discharge your battery.

(musical break)
